Competent Leadership – Finding Solutions for Today’s Challenges
August 20th, 2010 by Steve RosenbergToastmasters has a “Competent Leader” designation. I want to write a blog series about Competent Leadership.
I want to write a blog post on important competency is. There are so many incompetent people out there. I think the Great Recession has left so many incompetent people without a place to hide.
I feel the high unemployment rate is partially due to big corporations trimming some of these people from their payrolls – and then finding out they can do the business without them.
A competent leader –in business, civic organization or nonprofit – is one who leads by example. A competent leader is someone who makes tough decisions and delivers results.
A competent leader is someone who “under promises and over delivers.” No excuses. That’s how I have stayed in business for 20+ years.
What makes a person competent? What distinguishes a competent leader? What secrets do they have? What can we learn?
I want to find out by interviewing leaders and reporting about them on my blog.
The first thing a new visitor to a Toastmaster club notices is that everyone applauds. It’s a great feeling. Those of us not in sports or entertainment do not often get applause for doing something.
This series is like “applause” in for doing the difficult job of leading both competently and successfully.
