Google Caffeine for the On-the-Go Googler

August 5th, 2010 by Daniel

Google is adding another element into their Search Engine Rankings in order to make to sure that their users are finding the information they are looking for. Google Caffiene is designed to make return results faster and to be better equipped to deal with updated information.  Matt Cutts, the official blogger for Google regarding SEO, has gone on record to say that the most users will not notice a difference, but this will completely change the field of Search Engine Optimization and what a website needs to do in order to be found via the Search Engines for relevant keywords.

Google released a beta- version of Google Caffeine in June of this year. An article published titled Google Caffeine: A Detailed Test of the New Google tested the new Search Engine and discovered that the new version of Google displays results in almost twice the speed and that it places a greater reliance on keywords than the classic Google Algorithm that we have become accustomed to.

Google Caffeine will change Google’s algorithm considerably and in order for a website to be have any success in being found via the Search Engines they need to construct the website with these differences in mind.

Some of the changes expected due to Google Caffeine include:

  • Greater Emphasis on Keywords
  • Keyword Strings will be more important that exact phrases
  • Greater weigh to social media, especially blogs and links from Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter
  • Domain Names will be more important
  • Inbound Linking Text Will Be More Important and a more important factor

In my opinion this is part of a growing trend to see Search Engine Results act in real-time.  With the constant evolution of the Search Engine Algorithm it is not long before we see Search Engine Rankings that are able to reflect how well each website scores based on the respective algorithm at any given second. This means that when a website changes its text or a new article is posted, it will not be reflected in the Search Engine Rankings almost immediately. Google is on a mission to make their rankings as relevant as accurate as possible, and it is the ever changing challenge of SEO Professionals to keep up.
